Fatal Jealousy, Recognition & Grooming Business

Haven't been in the mood to blog this lately—been working on my KK Challenge 5 and marathon training. But just wanna post a bit on some current issues.

Fatal Jealousy

First up—practically in our own backyard here in KK—is the murder and suicide of a couple which reportedly started from jealousy. Yeah right, some strange people have a very strange way to solve their problems, you see—If I can't have this woman, then no one shall have her! What can I say, not all of us are very clever people. I hope the fellow was satisfied with himself when he died. At least someone is happy?

Anyway, this article in The Star is too brief. Actually, in our local papers here in KK, there's a bit more information. Apparently the murdered woman lodged 3 police reports (one as recent as just a few days ago) against her boyfriend. But I suppose the police was too busy investigating other police reports. If she could escape from her boyfriend for, say, a few years, then maybe the police might have had the opportunity to finally investigate her case. In Malaysia, people enjoy lodging police reports, even to preempt possible actions. And of course one can't expect the police to investigate all these reports. We have to wait for our turns, you know. So I'd reckon that reports lodged by politicians would be investigated first, if at all. If the police is able to clear all of those, then they will deal with the reports lodged by the rich and famous next. And if those could be gotten out of the way, then maybe there is a remote chance that the police will look into the reports lodged by us lay people.

Recognition

We've been craving for recognition in the global sense. We sent people to Mount Everest; to South Pole. Someone sailed around the world and then bestowed with Datukship. A teenage girl tried to swim across the English Channel, but unfortunately failed in her attempt. Otherwise she, too, would carry the title of Datuk by now. In fact, we are a nation which is fast becoming obsessed with all these recognitions. But perhaps we're getting a bit carried away this lately. Someone started to claim the recognition for certain delicacies, and then the next thing you know, everyone is claiming this food and that food as their recipes.

And so, now Malacca is claiming the Hainanese chicken rice as originating from its famous 17th Jonker Street. I'm just waiting for someone from Tuaran to claim the recognition for Tuaran Mein. Who knows, maybe Tuaran Mein can find its way into the Malaysia Book of Records. But of course that is assuming our Chief Minister, Datuk Musa Aman, can allow the use of the word Tuaran for such purpose.

Grooming Business

Finally, I hate to keep coming back to this same issue—it is getting boring; hell, it's beginning to be disgusting, but there you have it, Samy is still grooming his successor to lead the MIC. I think his chosen one is just about ready for the huge responsibility now. I say "just about ready", but not quite yet! Don't hold your breath, it may take a bit of time before it really happens.

Just adding in my usual 2 sen about what you have blogged here,Cornelius.

1. Fatal Jealousy
Two deaths have occurred as a rsult of one husband's jealousy and the wife's infidelity if what the papers reported was true.

Result of such senseless deaths is that 1 fatherless and motherless child belonging to them is left to fend or being cared by relatives who may not give it the best of care.

As for the inaction of the police despite that 3 police reports being made earlier before the incident by the deceased woman, one have to just go to the police station either in Kota Kinabalu downtown or Karamunsing to know why.

I have seen for myself one particular day when I went to renew my gun licence how crowded the police station in Karamunsing was with hordes of people queueing up (now they have numbering system) to have their reports made for the usual domestic husbands and wives disputes;assault cases due to drunk drinking;lost identity cards, cars stolen, snatch thieves caes, etc..

With so many reports made daily and limited manpower resource, it is no small wonder there is little or no action from the police to investigate or take immediate action on reports made.

2. Recognition
Since you mentioned about recognition of Tuaran mee, I can only say that the right to it must belongs to the Wong family from Tuaran who first started making this particular type of mee at their house. As the mee gains more fame, they started distributing them to hawkers and kedai kopi operating in Kota Kinabalu and elsewhere.

The Wong family used to operate a food stall on the 1st floor of the Tuaran market. My familt and I used to drive all the way up to Tuaran ion a weekend just to sample their Tuaran mee fried with char siew and scramble egg.
They are no longer operating at the stall since last year. Any bloggers know where they have moved to?

After Tuaran mee have been famously known in Kota Kinabalu, then came Tamparuli mee and of course, Beaufort mee. I used to patronise Man Tai when they were operating in Beafot many years ago when my family were staying in Beaufort.Beaufort Man Tai mee have now migrated to Kota Kinabalu by the siblings of the original Man Tai mee maker. At the lst count there are now at least 4 Man Tai mee shops operating in just Kota Kinabalu alone.

3. Grooming Business
Rumours has it that "Semi value" can't quit now or don't want to quit yet because he still hasn't been awarded the "Tunship" yet. Other ex-leaders like Tun Mahathir and Tun Ling Liong Sik of the same political era have already been bestowed with the title while he still hasn't got his.

Can any blogger enlighten me whether what I have heard in the grapevine that anyone who has been conferre the "Tunship" is protected from being charged for criminal cases (CBT, cheating cases, siphoning of shares, money laundering)?

Socrates29 over and out.

Welcome back, Socrates!

1. Fatal Jealousy:

I can agree with you on all counts, except that small part that relatives may not give the child the best care. On the contrary, sometimes, the relatives can be better parents than the biological parents. I say sometimes, not most of the time.

2. Recognition:

I'm not such a big fan of foods such as all these famous noodles, chicken rice, Bah Kut Teh, ngiu chap etc. So I'm the last person to go through all the trouble to hunt for them during my weekends. If I happened to be around the vicinity, I don't mind trying 'em out every now and then.

But having tasted Tuaran mee a couple of times before (in a KK coffee shop; I wouldn't drive all the way to Tuaran for a plate of noodle, thank you), I can say it's not bad. Haven't the slightest idea who the Wong fellas are. Not even sure if there is any value of having the Tuaran mee occupying a space in the Malaysia Book of Records. But of course I bet many of those from Tuaran may not agree with me.

3. Grooming Business:

If that's Mr Vellu's reason for not making way for the younger generation, then I would say it's a damn lousy excuse. The Tunship can come even after his retirement if he deserved it. And we all know in Malaysia, titles such as those are relatively easy to get, though admittedly not as easy as Datukship. Even someone who ran the country on auto pilot could get the "Tun". So "Tun" is just a title for the sake of a title - nothing very special about that title.

Regarding the claim that Tuns are immune from criminal actions, I don't believe it. These days in Malaysia even the Royal families are not really immune from the laws of the country. But if there is any truth in it, I'd like to hear the justifications for such immunity.
